DeSantis Suspends Soros Prosecutor for Ignoring Laws

DeSantis in Florida just keeps showing the rest of the country how it’s done.  There’s a Soros backed prosecutor named Andrew Warren who signed a letter stating that he wouldn’t prosecute anyone under the state’s new abortion law or its ban on sex change procedures for minors.

So DeSantis suspended him pending a review by the State Senate to remove him.  Well, how great is that?  Instead of waiting for a recall to be authorized DeSantis just boots the guy out of office and doesn’t wait for the slower legislature to catch up.

Kudos Ron, kudos.  If every red state had a governor like him this would be a much better country to live in.

The Big Heat

This early in the Dunwich winter (August 1st to June 30th), we can still have temperatures in the nineties.  Today the grandkids and their friends were in the pool and so we vacuumed it last night.  And Camera Girl’s garden is filled up with various squash varieties; zucchini, spaghetti and butternut.  I took a look at it today and found a medium sized frog hiding among the squash.  I guess he was working for me keeping the bugs off the vegetables.

And the last of the daylilies are blooming like crazy.  In another week they’ll be gone.  So, the swallowtails and the monarchs are flitting around them like their lives depended on it.

And the heat was like a wave of energy radiating from the grass and the plants.  I could feel it in the skin of my face and the hair on my arms.  It seared my lungs when I breathed it.  It made me feel intensely alive.  So, I took a bunch of photos of flowers and butterflies and a couple of the frog.

Looking over the various news items is depressing.  Not because things are getting worse but simply because they are so pathetic.  There is a consensus that no one wants Joe Biden running for re-election, not even Democrats.  But the powers that be haven’t figured out how to force Creepy Uncle Joe into a hospice.  I think they’ll probably get a veterinarian to put him to sleep.  It would be cheaper.

Most of the opinion pieces today align with what I expect the publication’s readership would want to hear.  Lots of cheerleading.  As I said, even though things are trending in our favor right now, I find myself a little down due to just how abysmally bad the state of the world is.  What can you say about the state of the world when we’re forced to choose sides between the Chi-Coms and Nancy Pelosi?  How do you win that bet?

I was having a discussion with an old friend and we were sort of talking about this same thing, the pitiful state of the world.  And I was making the point that we have to stop expecting a big victory that will fix all these awful things.  These awful things are the baseline conditions of our times and it’s up to us to fix them in our own lives.  Sure, we can hope to elect better leaders but what we have to do is find solutions in our own lives.  Your kids are the only future there will be for your world view.  Teaching them what you believe to be true and right is your best chance of saving them from the groomers.  Giving them a good education is the best way of preparing them for making a decent living.  Helping them get on their feet is the way to pay forward the help you were given by your parents.

Of course, I was preaching to the choir but I thought it was worth saying it out loud.  Sometimes we can let ourselves get discouraged and then we need to put things in perspective.  Regardless of what Washington or the Blue State leaders say is policy, we have access to our kids and we can do an awful lot to shape their minds and souls.  And we need to make that our priority.

Saying those things out loud actually helped my mood.  I walked away from the computer screen and spent some time annoying Camera Girl.  I could sense that she needed valuable feedback from me on what she was making for dinner and stuff.

Next week we’re going to spend a day and a night up in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with the grandkids and their parents.  This will be a kind of revival of sorts.  About twenty-five years ago we started going there with our kids in the summers.  There’s an old-style amusement park with rides, bad fried food and crooked carnival games.  The beach is actually quite nice and compares favorably to any of the other East Coast resorts in terms of white sand and clean water.  I’ll get to walk down the beach with Princess Sack of Potatoes just as I did with her mother when she was that age.  And I’ll probably have to carry her when she gets too lazy to walk back.  The littlest boy will fly a kite on the sand and dig a sand castle.  And if I’m not careful I’ll be pummeled by him in the bumper cars at the amusement park.  And all of that is the fun part of paying forward what my parents and grandparents did for me.  Spending time with these people is the reason we do all this.  Otherwise, we might as well give up and let the whole world go to hell.

03AUG2022 – An Interesting but Not Shocking Series of Results from Last Night’s Elections

So disappointingly we only hooked one of three impeachment reps last night.  Michigan booted Meijer last night and selected Trump’s pick Gibbs.  But both Newhouse and Herrera-Beutler skated by in Washington state.  In retrospect it seems obvious that in a deep blue state like Washington what passes for Republicans are going to be diluted with people who would be considered Democrats in red states.  In the future it will make sense to stop thinking about counting “Republicans” in places like Washington as reliable votes.  At best they can be thought of as Independents that might be bargained with on certain votes.

The big disappointment of the night was Kansas rejecting the pro=life amendment to curtail abortion.  Well, Kansas got their say.  They’ll live with it.

Missouri rejected Greitens in favor of Schmitt.  Probably not a big deal.  Michigan went for Trump’s pick Dixon.  Good.  Arizona selected Masters for Senator.  Good.

But it looks like there’s some chicanery going on with the vote for Arizona governor.  It’s stuck at 80%.  With Lake ahead by about 2% I assume the crooks are cooking up new votes for her opponent.  Should be a good test of what the cheating will look like in November.

All in all, a pretty good night.  The outlines of the new Republican party are taking shape.  The areas that really are conservative will begin to diverge from the areas that are now reliably liberal.  And that’s all to the good.  Local rule is the name of the game.  Give the people what they want.  Let them live with their choices.

02AUG2022 – Another Busy Tuesday in Primary Season

Arizona, Missouri, Washington, Kansas, Michigan.  Never-Trumpers, abortion, Trump picks.  Today has got something for everyone.

Arizona has a duel between a Trump anointed gubernatorial candidate, Kari Lake and the establishment candidate, Karrin Taylor Robson, touted by the present governor and Mike Pence.  So far Lake’s in the lead but there are some polls showing a tight race.  In the primary for Arizona senator Trump’s pick Blake Masters, seems out way ahead.

In the wonderful spite derby that is the effort to fire all the Republican representatives that voted to impeach Donald Trump there are three of the quislings being primaried today.

In Michigan, rat one, Peter Meijer is running against Trump approved candidate John Gibbs.  He looks to be in big trouble.

In Washington state there are two rats, Jaime Herrera Butler and Dan Newhouse.  But Washington is a commie state so the primaries aren’t according to party so these two rodents may get enough Democrat support to slide through.

In Missouri Eric Greitins has the Trump nod for Republican senate nominee but he’s being challenged by the Republican establishment of the state.  This one’s up in the air.

In Kansas, there is a vote on an amendment to the state constitution that would allow lawmakers to decide what would be the fate of abortion in Kansas.  This is seen as an important test of how red states view abortion in the post Roe v. Wade environment.

And finally, in Michigan, will Trump’s pick for Republican candidate for governor, Tudor Dixon win a convincing victory and show himself a viable threat to unseat that soulless harpy, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

How can you not like this night of political mayhem?  Anti-Trumpers going down in flames, Establishment Republicans denied, conspiracy theorists being elevated to positions of importance?  It’s got everything, even some democracy in action.

Well, I’ll be roasting the popcorn so be sure to stay up for the fun.  As winter asserts itself here in Dunwich in the early days of August the rest of the country continues to celebrate the joys of summer.  I’ll put on an extra layer of blankets and drink some hot tea by the glow of the cathode ray tube of my black and white television while Walter Cronkite and Huntley and Brinkley announce the results and provide commentary, the lousy commies!

The Last Day of July 2022

“August up ahead. Sure. But the way things are going, there’ll be no machines, no friends, and darn few dandelions for the last harvest.” – Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury

Today is the last day of July.  So, tomorrow is the first official day of winter in Dunwich.  I know that seems odd but it’s true.  July is the only truly bulletproof month of the year.  By the end of August weird freaky cold spells can happen and June is certainly no proof against frost.  Also, it’s only in July that heat can blast all the cold out of old bones and a soul and convince you that there is still some kernel of boy left in an old man.

Of course, I’m ignoring the multitude of annoying problems of summer.  Mosquitoes, poison ivy, wearing hats and sunscreen, stifling houses, watering plants, cutting grass, etc. etc. etc.  But all of that pales into insignificance when you sit on a porch and listen to the crickets chirp and watch the fireflies flash.

And if you’re gathering with friends and family, it’s especially nice.  The long, long days of July have enough time for all the fun (and the chores) that go along with summer.  By definition the Fourth of July cookout is the cornerstone of the month but there is room for a bunch of barbecues and parties.  This year we lured the grandkids over a bunch of times to swim in the pool.  And that of course means taking care of the pool which is a royal pain but the reward ratio is still plenty high to make up for it.

Well today is the end.  August is a summing up.  It’s rushing in whatever is left to do and making sure to start getting ready for what comes next.  For the kids that’s school and fall.  For adults it’s beginning to put away all the summer stuff and prepare the winter equipment.  So, I’m going to enjoy today for sure.

Yesterday was a family get together.  A younger nephew had a birthday party and my kids and grandkids showed up with other of my siblings and their kids.  Over pizza for the kids and some very good Italian appetizers we talked about this and that.

I had an interesting discussion about a report I read about how faked biomedical research on Alzheimer’s disease has set back the course of finding a cure at least fifteen years.  The feedback was that fake research and shoddy peer review is now endemic and that science is thoroughly infected with quackery.  This jibes with the growing pseudoscience of climate change and all the nonsense that gets reported as research in the social sciences and psychology.

And maybe we’re kidding ourselves and it’s always been like this.  But it does seem to me that the public has reached a point where gullibility is dangerously high.  The COVID madness proved that supposed adults will do anything they’re told if it’s wrapped in a government program.

But for me it’s just one more reminder that we’re not “all in this together.”  Critical thinking and maintaining options may save your life and definitely will save you a lot of grief and money.  The Left has clearly shown us what they intend to do.  They’re looking to make us serfs.  It behooves us to work with whatever resources and allies we have to make that as hard as possible.

Well, anyway, enjoy July Thirty First.

And then, quite suddenly, summer was over.

He knew it first when walking downtown.  Tom grabbed his arm and pointed gasping, at the dime-store window.  They stood there unable to move because of the things from another world displayed so neatly, so innocently, so frighteningly, there.

“Pencils, Doug, ten thousand pencils!”

“Oh, my gosh! ” – Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury

In the Bright Light of Day

So, I’m finally over my jetlag from the Yellowstone trip.  I lost ten pounds during my trek and I think that discombobulated my system.  I felt low energy and a little bit down.  But last night Camera Girl killed the fatted calf (she made spaghetti, meat balls and sausage) and I feel back to my old self.

And with this physical restoration my mood has improved and I can face the world of Creepy Uncle Joe and his incompetent version of a neo-Stalinist rainbow new world order.  The thing to remember is that we are in a new world.  For example, worrying about the consequences of blue city crime is a waste of time.  Instead, anticipate where you can escape from this problem and in that way prosper despite their dysfunction.

Trying to shore up a dying civilization is a fool’s errand.  When Rome is falling look for Byzantium or the Franks as a new haven of stability.  Or maybe you join the Huns or the Vandals.  At least you’ll have some freedom and a share in the loot.  That’s better than being another Roman serf being worked to death by a Roman or barbarian master.

So that’s my brave talk for today.  The thing for us to do is look for advantage wherever we can find it.  Look for leaders who want to provide a local environment that’s better than the cataclysm that’s Joe’s New World Order.  I think Ron DeSantis is trying to show Floridians that he can do things to counteract the feds and their dysfunctional social agenda.  That’s the kind of thing we need to be looking for.

The order of the day is work arounds and ad hoc solutions to the break down of just about everything.  When the power grid stops being reliable, we’ll need generators and battery back-ups.  When schools become woke grooming academies, we’ll set up educational collectives in our neighborhoods that will evolve into new schools.  When gasoline stations start disappearing, we’ll be like Mad Max in the wasteland looking for the last fuel depot to get us out of the fiefdom of the Lord Humongous on our way to a better place.

It seems bleak but the alternative is just acquiescing to the mindless degradation that our opponents seem fixated on rolling out.  In reality it’s still easier than the precarious existence that was the 18th century American frontier or the nightmare that was the European middle-ages.  We need to begin the process of separating from and building up an identity distinct from the current “America.”  Apparently, there is an enormous group of people who believe in the woke America and being trapped in an environment with them is incredibly painful and unhealthy for us.

Build our own things.  That sounds simple but it will be a full-time job and it will be a continuous battle.  We’re starting to see some results from the conservative Supreme Court.  The decision on religious schools in Maine is the first step in prying education out of the hands of the Left.  More decisions like that will start to turn the tide.  Of course, the Left isn’t just sitting there.  They’ll try to pack the court.  Maybe they’ll win.  If they do then we look further afield for relief.  Maybe we find a state to push back against the feds.  Or maybe we leave these shores if there’s no alternative.  But giving up is not a choice.

How’s that for a more up-beat attitude?

How Far Will the Pendulum Swing this Time?

Back in the 1970s America went off the rails.  The cities became drug and crime infested hell holes.  The economy cratered into stagflation.  Public trust in government and other institutions nose dived and Americans were afraid for the future.

And this low point was followed by Ronald Reagan’s election and a renewal that ushered in the optimism of the 1980s and beyond.

By my scorecard we’re even lower now than we were in the late seventies.  By every social, economic, cultural and physical measure, our world is shaking itself apart like an unbalanced rotating machine.  So many things are out of whack that it’s hard to see how the whole damn thing doesn’t smash itself to bits and lay across the landscape like a shrapnel field.

But someone once said, “There’s a lot of ruin in a nation.”  And he was right.  There have already been reactions to the madness of George Floyd and Joe Biden in places like Florida and Texas.  Someone like Ron DeSantis is sticking his neck out to defy COVID lockdowns and illegal alien invasions and crime waves and pedophile grooming in the elementary schools.

The pendulum will swing back against the stroke of madness.  The only question I wonder about is how far.  You see, I think we may not end up in positive territory after this latest debacle.  Back in the 1970s we didn’t have gay marriage, defund the police, sanctuary cities, legalized drugs, doctors castrating children and cancel culture.  I’m not sure we’ll get back far enough to keep the lights burning.

There are basic problems with our society that may preclude our survival as a culture.  Western civilization has convinced itself that abandoning things like petroleum and nuclear power will be possible without abandoning their benefits.  For the last century and more we’ve enjoyed the luxuries that electricity and the internal combustion engine have provided us.  The freedom to live our lives the way we want has been provided by the automobile and the instant communication inherent in the telephone.  Things like central heating and air conditioning were made possible by fossil fuels and the chemistry that they provided.

Now our descendants have become detached from reality and in order to pay homage to the Earth Goddess Gaia they demand that we cover the landscape with windmills and solar panels and pretend that this will allow us to carry on as before.  Screeching mental defectives like that Scandinavian harpy Greta Thunberg cow the leaders of modern countries into shutting down the resources needed to keep the wheels of industry turning.  Currently the price of fuel has doubled and when winter returns to the Northern Hemisphere we may see some truly frightening increases in the cost of heating oil and gas.

So, all of this is my way of wondering out loud whether we can turn this thing around.  Suppose we banish the Democrats from their leadership positions in the House and Senate in November.  That’s a start.  And suppose we retake the White House in 2024.  And suppose the Supreme Court overturns the constitutionality of gay marriage and affirmative action.  Will that be enough to push things back to normalcy?  I’m not so sure.

What I hope is that if those minimal things happen then some of the states will start nullifying federal actions that they find unconstitutional.  Sort of like the blue states did with sanctuary cities and legalized pot.  And that may be as good as it will get.  For some areas of the country, it’s probably too late.  Places like Baltimore and Philadelphia may not make it back to the rule of law.  Baltimore has been seven years without a working criminal justice system.  There may not be the will to reestablish law and order there.  Even New York and Chicago are becoming thugocracies.  Packs of teenage children hunt down and batter old people to death for sport.  This is not something you fix with an election or two.

Leave your comments below.  I’m curious to get the consensus from the readers.  Will we get back to where we were in 2000?  What do you think?

Sanctuary Cities Full Up

It turns out NYC and Washington DC would like a few less illegal aliens looking for sanctuary in their sanctuary cities.  When Joe Biden unleashed the endless caravan of the unwashed on the US borders some of the governors (Abbott in Texas and DeSantis in Florida) decided it would be poetic justice to pay for bus tickets to send these “undocumented Americans” to those two blue cities.

Well, lo and behold, Mayor Adams of New York and Mayor Bowser of DC have discovered that illegal aliens cost money to keep alive.  In fact, Bowser is upset that the illegals were “tricked” into getting on the buses.  Now she wants Creepy Uncle Joe to step in and pick up the tab.

Hey, good for DeSantis and Abbott.  While they’re at it they might as well send them to the other sanctuary cities too.  San Francisco can always use more homeless people crapping on its streets.  And don’t forget Portland, Oregon.  It’s obvious that Antifa needs help finishing off Portland.  Ten or twenty thousand starving immigrants would really seal the deal.

So, once again, Biden has a policy that’s so bloody awful that even his own partisans are getting fragged by the fallout.  I like this current strategy so much I’m looking for ways to expand its impact.  To really hammer the point home the red states should craft policies that encourage illegal aliens and even just people on welfare to move to the blue cities.  The free bus ticket is good but really there should be a whole agency of government in these states to identify and expedite the migration of these people to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Providence, Newark, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Baltimore and the rest of the sanctuary cities.  They should hire lawyers to help these people get housing, health care, food stamps and all the other benefits you would expect from a first-rate sanctuary city.  To do less would just reek of insincerity for a real sanctuary.

But it’s not enough.  I think these sanctuary cities should also become sanctuaries for those getting out of prison in the red states.  After all, with the Soros prosecutors now eliminating bail requirements and nullifying arrests for anything less serious than serial murder these recent alumni of red state prisons deserve to relocate to an area where they can ply their professions (drug kingpin, gang banger, thug) without the annoying interference of law enforcement and other components of the criminal justice system.

Looks like a win/win to me.  The red states get to off load unproductive and anti-social residents and the blue cities can virtue signal how much they care about the wretched refuse and how they can run big cities without police or sanity.  Seems about right.

Maybe all of this is a taste of things to come.  With the federal government refusing to provide services like border protection the states will have to become creative at protecting themselves from the predatory actions by Washington.  I could see states begin following the letter of the law on enforcing employment bans against illegal aliens.  Punishing employers who break these laws with extremely harsh penalties would fix the problem very quickly.  Pretty soon all the illegals would be where they belong, in the sanctuary states and the rest of the country could get back to normal life.

August 16th 2022 – Deep Six Liz Cheney Day

I have always been open about my love for the vendetta.  As a southern Italian with Sicilian blood, it is probably genetic.  So, it will come as no surprise to anyone that of all the days that mark this mid-term election year it is possible that August 16th will be my favorite.  On that day Liz Cheney is very likely to be flushed down the toilet of electoral politics never to surface again.

She will be booted out of the race for Wyoming’s lone seat in the House of Representatives.  The latest poll has her primary opponent up +22 with the poll at 52% to 30%.

Polling Data

Poll Date Sample MoE Hageman Cheney Bouchard Spread
Mason-Dixon 7/7 – 7/11 1100 LV 3.0 52 30 5 Hageman +22

Now having just returned from Wyoming I can see how truly poor a representative she is of that state.  Everywhere I looked there were billboards praising the second amendment and the right to bear arms.  I saw MAGA hats and flags all over the place.  My favorite flag flying from the back of a pickup truck said Take America Back Again.

Suffice it to say that Donald Trump has a lot of supporters in Wyoming.  And Wyoming is split 70% – 30%, Republican – Democrat.  Even if every Democrat switches parties to vote for Cheney in the primary she is going down in flames.  On August 17th she’ll return to the January 6th show trial as a lame duck witch hunter.  She’ll probably get all kinds of sympathy from her fellow nut jobs on the committee and they’ll tell her how brave she is and how she’s sure to land a great job at MSNBC or CNN like former Republican Joe Scarborough did.

But no matter how this thing is spun it’s gotta be an absolute gut punch for Liz.  After all her father was the Vice President of the United States and the recognized Prince of Darkness by all members of the Left.  That kind of lineage requires a certain level of respect.  To be kicked to the curb by the MAGA crowd must really sting.  After all we’re just riff-raff.  She’s royalty.

And so, you can see why this reckoning appeals so strongly to my instinct for revenge.  Liz is a creature of the Deep State.  Her loyalty is to managerial state and she probably despises the deplorables much more than she competes against the Democrats.  After all, they’re friends and neighbors.  Their kids go to the same schools.  They vacation at the same places and they eat at the same four-star restaurants.

So, circle August 16th on your calendar and prepare your favorite snack to stay up and relish the election returns on Real Clear Politics or whatever news source you favor for election results.  I want to hear Liz Cheney’s tearful or angry or just gob-smacked concession speech.  I’m hoping for angry.  I want to know we got under her skin.

We’re nobodies.  Our lives mean nothing to the Masters of the Universe who declare that we may not use gasoline to travel to work or eat meat at our family barbecues or walk on an airplane without a mask.  But in just this little case we can make Liz Cheney sad.  She’ll have to be a pundit on a crappy cable channel instead of President of the United States.  Her dream will be crushed because she was doing the Marie Antoinette act and ignored her constituency.

It’s still three weeks away.  I’m very impatient.  That whole, “Revenge is a dish best served up cold.” thing is really annoying.  But I’ll do my best.  Will it be enough?  Nah.  November will hold the promise of so much more.  But Cheney is the microcosm of the whole thing.  RINOs are the worst symptom of our present political cancer.  They’re the kill shot that prevents us from saving ourselves through elections.  They’re straight up traitors to their constituents.  Because of that, flushing one of their careers down the drain is a schadenfreudian delight.

Bye-bye Liz.  Don’t think it hasn’t been a pleasure, … because it hasn’t!

Update:

Not satisfied with her imminent rejection by the state of Wyoming, Liz is looking ahead to being humiliated in a presidential bid in 2024.
