06FEB2022 – Unbridled Enthusiasm Threatens to Break Out at the Compound

With positive news seeping out of the frozen ground from all directions, I must tamp down this elation that I’m feeling.  With Canadians behaving in a very unCanadian-like manner, Dementia Joe mocked and despised by the majority of Americans and Progressives and their agenda in a shambles, it’s very difficult for me to maintain my proper red-pilled gloom.  And just for good measure, we had the grandkids over last night for a big Italian dinner and it’s a brilliant sunny day (admittedly frigid but brilliant) today and I feel pretty damn good.

And it’s funny, I was reading some posts from uber-leftists in the Atlantic and Slate and even that tripe couldn’t depress me.  I guess it’s because they sound so desperate to want to believe that any day now the Biden administration will become more popular than beer.  There was one dope writing in, I think, the Atlantic that was telling the progressives that better days were coming soon.  That conservatives were no fun.  They were sexual prudes and anti-intellectuals who don’t read.  The basis for this opinion was that there were anti-abortion bills being passed in red states and that parents were objecting to 1619 Project books being forced on children in their schools.

Now how exactly that squares with the reality of the modern Left’s current attitudes is sort of a mystery.  All the book banning I’ve heard about comes from the Left.  They won’t even let books be published if they object to the subject matter.  And as for sex, the young people today have become so confused and frightened by the leftist rules and attitudes about being male or female they don’t even want to have sex any more.  So, reading that article actually had me laughing.  Imagine thinking anyone would be flocking to hang out in a leftist struggle session.  I mean there’s nothing sexier and more intellectual than a gaggle of transgender Karens talking about their sex lives and listing the books you’re not allowed to read.

Let’s just say it’s a good day.  I took some photos of a gang of turkeys that were walking through the property and I see some icicles on the shed that’ll make a nice photo.  I’ve got some writing to do and maybe a little shoveling on the lower driveway but that will be a nice bit of exercise for the afternoon.  Sure, the price of food and everything else has gotten ridiculous and maybe that will get to be problem by and by but that’s just how it goes.  We’re not starving and we can still pay the taxes and who knows when I finish that novel it may be wildly successful and I’ll have to find a tax shelter to protect my billions in sales.  And I was watching a documentary on the “Dustbowl” back in the 1930’s and just seeing what those poor people endured puts my small problems in a much better perspective.  Those people lost children to the health hazards of the dust and lost everything they owned in the world.  They had to travel thousands of miles to a place that didn’t want them and beg for back breaking stoop labor that paid next to nothing.  I guess I can put up with Dopey Joe for a few more years before he gets sent to the cracker factory by Dr. Jill and Hunter.

Mostly everything I hear is good news.  Even that thing about GoFundMe stealing the truckers’ money turned around and they had to refund the donors.  I heard it was because Ron DeSantis threatened to sue GoFundMe.  Good for him!  Now there’s another crowdfund site to help the truckers.  All good.

So, I hope your Sunday is going as well as mine.  I’ll be back with something more substantial when I see it.

Wanted: Local Political Contributors

As the Primary and General Off-Year Elections creep up on us I’m interested in getting posts from readers about their local political scene.  Places like Texas, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois, Minnesota are represented by readers here.  Even Canada and Australia have local political stories that some of our readers might want to provide.  So if you are interested in sharing your perspective on your local politics, get in touch.  Either leave a comment or send an e-mail to orionscoldfire at charter dot net.  Anonymity is, of course, perfectly fine and if you prefer to discuss local cultural issues instead of or in addition to politics that also is encouraged.  I’ll add this want-ad to the footer of the posts for a while to see if I can entice any readers to write.

Is Canada Getting Red-Pilled?

My exposure to Canadians has been limited.  I had a good friend at a couple of my jobs back in the 90’s and he was intelligent, funny and friendly.  But, as with all Canadians I’ve known, he was noticeably obsessed with following the rules.  I recently worked with a Canadian who was unfriendly, sarcastic and unimaginative but likewise he was a box checker.  He followed the rules as painfully as anyone I’ve ever known.

What are the chances that Canada as a whole, or even a majority of them decide to break the rules?  My guess is, it’s very unlikely.  With the trucker’s protest going on in Ottawa Trudeau has banked on the ingrained obedience of Canadians to allow him to crush the protest without more than a minor amount of resistance.  And even if the truckers put up a good fight and the police have to beat and maybe kill a few good men, the rest of Canada will stand idly by and watch it without as much as a shout of outrage at the injustice.  I think this is what will happen.

But as well behaved as Canadians are, will they be so easily cowed that when it comes time to re-elect their government in 2023 that they will just resignedly push the lever for the government that crushed a peaceful protest?  Are they that spiritless and docile?  My guess is they are not.

Americans have collectively reached their limit of COVID fascism.  Even the true-believers are exhausted and dispirited over continuing the soul crushing exercise that forces people to be inoculated with vaccines that don’t vaccinate and wear masks that don’t protect.  They’re tired of their children missing their childhood while they wear masks while trying to play in the schoolyard and even while playing sports.  By March even that dolt Biden will be forced to end the mandates.  He knows the mandates are killing his presidency and he’s cowardly enough to reverse direction to avoid his approval rating reaching single digits.  Several European countries have already eliminated the COVID restrictions altogether.  It will happen everywhere soon.

So, I’m guessing even the hypercompliant Canadians must be reaching their limit too.  And if in this state of mind, they get to see, on the six o’clock news, the storm troopers in Ottawa hauling hard-working Canadians off to jail I think this will be enough to piss them off.  I think it will be similar to what we saw in Virginia.  Basically, liberals who are pushed too far.  They will toss Trudeau and the Liberals out of power.

I don’t know much about the Canadian Conservative party.  I assume they are much like the spineless Republican establishment; useless.  But it’s always possible that some few men with backbones could seize the opportunity to revolt against the mealy-mouthed hollow suits who follow along with the Liberals.  Maybe this could be their Trump moment when they wake up from the dream and try to take their country back.  Or maybe they’ll just follow the rules and dig their own graves as the rules tell them to.

War Pig:
I believe you’re an Ohioan. Do you have any thoughts on the Mike DeWine vs Jim Renacci governor’s primary? I think I’ve heard DeWine has made himself unpopular over COVID but it’s all third hand info as far as I know.

DeWine, or as many call him, DeSwine, is very unpopular over covid policies, many of which were overturned by the Ohio Supreme Court. I would not be surprised to see Renacci make a very strong showing but DeSwine has the backing of the ones who made the most money during the pandemic
. He has the money and he runs the machine. I hope he is soundly defeated but I have so little faith in the current electoral system that I am doubtful.

04FEB2022 – OCF Update – The Ice Storm Cometh and Goeth

Winter Storm Landon, possibly named for Lil’ Joe, the youngest of the Cartwright boys, sashayed through the Compound today and deposited a couple of inches of rain followed by a half-inch of ice and slush on my driveway.  Since Camera Girl has a painting class tomorrow morning and will want to to get out of the driveway alive, it behooved me to scrape off this annoying and dangerously slippery coating before it became a rock solid ice skating rink-like surface.  I went out to shovel without gloves, jacket or hat to show her how virile and manly I am.  I felt I had to do this because we had just finished watching Amazon’s first installment of the Jack Reacher series called, sensibly enough, “Reacher.”  After watching him snap limbs, gouge out eyes and break backs in a seven on one prison fight I felt I had to up my game.  I needed something more dangerous and elemental than my usual go to, “taking out of the trash.”  I shouted, “I’m going out there to make the world safe for you, woman!”  She rolled her eyes but I knew she respected the hell out of me right then.

Anyway, this is the second tv series we’ve watched based on Camera Girl’s crime/action book choices.  First we watched Bosch and now Reacher.  So far she’s batting a thousand.  Bosch was very good (except for the last season that got too social justice preachy for my taste).  And now Reacher is a straight up action/crime fest.  And as compared to the movies that featured Tom Cruise the guy playing Reacher is a monster.  He could use Cruise as a Pez dispenser.  So far it’s been very entertaining in a comic book sort of way.  I really need to review these two series.  With so little worth watching out there I should share anything that’s actually worthwhile.

Today was a good fiction writing day so I’m behind on posts for the site but I’m sure to be inspired by the dumbasses who run our country.  One of these days I’ll probably write something very insulting about Jen Psaki.  Every time I watch one of her press conferences it occurs to me that she must be a singularly unpleasant woman.  She appears to be the quintessential Karen, sort of the National Karen so to speak.  But the question to be answered is, has Dementia Joe ever smelled her stoplight red hair?  We’ll see what my muse has to say.

The Trucker’s Protest in Canada has been getting more and more attention.  I wonder if they’ll spark a true revolt up North.  It seems unlikely but you know I think the world is coming to a consensus that COVID needs to end.  A number of European countries have already pulled the plug.  Will there be a flashpoint before Dementia Joe pulls the plug in March?  I hope so.  I’d love to see the feds back down.  Well, to be continued.  Enjoy the start to the weekend.

The Revolt Against Left Wing School Boards and Schools Continues

Even in purple Colorado parents are fed up with COVID restrictions and with CRT being forced on their children.

“In November, four seats on Douglas County’s school board in Colorado were up for grabs in an election, and a quartet of conservative candidates raised hundreds of thousands of dollars more than their competition.  The four individuals — Mike Peterson, Becky Meyers, Christy Williams, and Kaylee Winegar — all now sit on the seven-person board.

The Douglas County Federation spokesperson told Insider that one particular grievance the union had with the new school board members was the decision made by the conservative-majority in late January to weaken the district’s educational equity policy.

The spokesperson also said that two new conservative school board members tried to fire the district’s superintendent Corey Wise, and they along with the two other new conservative members decided they would give Wise an ultimatum to either resign or be fired.

The school board also struck down a COVID-19 mask mandate late last year, the spokesperson said.

Fundraising for Douglas County’s 2021 elections shattered contributions made during the district’s 2017 elections.

In last year’s elections, the quartet was supported by the conservative 1776 Project PAC, a national group that launched in May that says it’s actively trying to stop critical race theory from being taught in classrooms.

All the Colorado school board candidates backed by the PAC swept their races in local elections in November.

The election in Douglas County came at the heels of a heated school board meeting that saw parents lash out against the board over COVID-19 safety policies and the supposed teaching of critical race theory.

It’s a microcosm of a general trend, where school boards and districts have become battlegrounds for culture war topics.”

The Coalition of the Cancelled

Charlie Rose, Mark Halperin, Matt Lauer, Andrew Cuomo, Chris Cuomo, Jeff Zucker, Whoopi Goldberg.  What do all these names have in common?  They’re all feel-good stories about the Left.  For all but the last name on that list there is a causal chain that has come to be known as the MeToo movement.  All of these men have been brought down because they were blindsided by the changes to what was considered acceptable and unacceptable male/female behavior among the corporate Left.  And since they are all progressives it means they had to be cast into the outer darkness where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth for being heretics to the narrative.  And one more case is waiting in the wings, Don Lemon.  CNN’s parent company is looking to change directions and they may use as an excuse to fire him that Lemon is facing criminal charges for a sexual assault charge based on his disgusting behavior.  With any luck he’ll be hung out to dry too and will have to join Jussie Smollett in the ranks of gay, black former celebrities.  But this is just the nature of the intersectional grievance culture.  It’s always looking for more heads for the chopping block of social justice outrage.  Cancelled and punished sinners are always in demand.

Whoopi Goldberg on the other hand is a special case.  She is the literal manna from heaven.  Along with the other harridans on “The View” she opines on everything from Roman Polanski’s rape of a thirteen-year-old girl, to Bill Cosby’s date rape trial, to the Holocaust.  And no matter what else she does she always manages to sound like an ignoramus.

The most memorable occasion was when she described what Polanski did to the thirteen-year-old as, “not rape, rape.”  Who could be more eloquent in her tone-deaf stupidity than that?  Her latest pronouncement was that the Holocaust couldn’t have been caused by racism because Germans and Jews are both “white.”  I’m guessing that didn’t go over big with her “View” co-host Joy Behar.

Actually, in a way it does speak to her sincerity.  Whoopi just doesn’t realize that there’s no place for honesty in the intricacies of the intersectional hierarchy.  She sees two groups of white people and all she thinks is, “how could there be racism if there ain’t no black folks around.”  And based on her experience with white people she assumes they will defer to her judgement on racism since she is black and they revere the opinions of black people with respect to the theory of racism.

Now you’d think since her name is Goldberg that she’d have done some research on the Holocaust exception.  Since World War II and especially in the entertainment industry the Holocaust has a very special dispensation.  For this special case only, ethnicity is considered equivalent to race and Hitler is defined as the racist par excellence.  By claiming that the Holocaust wasn’t a racist event she was absolving Hitler of racism.  This was indeed a bridge too far.  But Whoopi is black so she couldn’t be fired.  She was suspended which at least indicates the severity of the crime.  Luckily for her she cannot be cast into the outer darkness like all those white men.  All they could do was bring in the Anti-Defamation League to warn everyone about how dangerous this kind of talk is and how antisemites are lurking in the shadows around the set of “The View” waiting to begin the next pogrom.  And eventually Whoopi will recover a memory about how her blasphemy had been inspired by something Donald Trump must have said to her in a dream or something.

So that was about six hundred rambling words about Leftists devouring their own.  What’s the point?  Very simply, this is proof that there is no coalition of the aggrieved.  It’s every Leftist for himself out there and the fairy tale about the great circle of people who will live in harmony and peace once the straight white men are banished is just that, a fairy tale.  The cracks are there and have always been there.  When Jesse Jackson called New York City Hymietown that was his true feeling.  When lesbians speak honestly about “trans-women” they are horrified at the idea that they might be approached by them sexually.  Black men think of white feminists as “Karens.”  Asians fear inner city blacks as violent criminals.  And many black women react violently if a trans-woman shows up in the restroom they are using.

The brave new world that the woke tell us about is a product of the carefully curated social networks.  In the real world we have cities coming apart at the seams and crime engulfing the multicultural “paradises” of New York, Seattle and Chicago.  This coalition is a product of the college campuses and the imagination of the perpetual students who inhabit them.  As the economy stalls out and crime peels off white suburban women and other white-collar groups from the coalition it’s going to look a lot less robust.

My thought is it’s time to stop worrying so much about the unbeatable coalition of tomorrow and instead think more about the policy holes of today.  Republicans need to run on runaway crime and inflation.  Those are realities that force the middle class to listen.  Tomorrow will take care of tomorrow.

02FEB2022 – OCF Update – Groundhog’s Day

“Okay Campers, Rise and Shine, and Don’t Forget Your Booties, ’cause it’s Cold Out There“

Ah, the horror of February.  Interminable days of cold and gray.  I think that’s why February only has 28 days.  It’s to give hope to the faint of heart.  Seeing the calendar flip to March provides some measure, or at least, the illusion of progress.

Camera Girl has been feeding the birds again.  She’s adopted a murder of crows that have been very skittishly approaching the pond to get some chicken scraps that she’s been leaving for them.  But a hawk chased them away today.

Later they settled their differences and started feeding together.  She was very happy about this avian ecumenicalism.  I told her not to be surprised if the hawk decided to eat brother crow while they were lounging together.

So rise and shine campers it’s cold outside and Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and there’s six more weeks of this nightmare left.

The Only Thing That Can Cure Stupid is Pain

Somebody or other once said that stupidity is the most powerful force in the Universe.  And I think that is true.  Another name for stupidity is inertia.  It is what the mind must move to bring intelligence to brute existence.  And it is why nothing can be accomplished without enormous amounts of pain and death.  The spark of intelligence is resisted by the inertia of stupidity.  And the process of intelligence overcoming stupidity is a variety of evolution.  Life adapts to the changing Universe and becomes better adapted to its surroundings in a never-ending dance.

In our human microcosm we attempt to become better adapted to the human environment.  But there are many conflicting forces at work.  Human cooperation and conflict exist at the same time and they can never be statically balanced.  They are always dynamically interacting and so anytime you try to depend on some temporary relationship between them you run the risk of being blind-sided by change.  The only way to stay on the “right side of history” is when you force history to go where you want it to go.

And that is what we see going on today.  The Stupid Party wants to follow the rules from yesterday assuming that the Evil Party will follow those rules too.  What they don’t see is that the Evil Party is making up new rules as it goes along.  And those rules are just whatever ensures that it will be winning and its enemies will be losing.  Evolution is the Stupid Party getting replaced by a Less Stupid Party.  We have no choice but to evolve in our thinking or become grease for the wheels that turn the world.

If the progs want to demonize the police and deify George Floyd then we have to let them burn the cities down.  That’s where reality will burn the fingers of the stupid people living there who bought into BLM and “Defund the Police.”  They must find out exactly what defund the police looks like, up close and personal.  When every store goes out of business from shop lifting and every subway car is filled with predators and prey then it will become clear why George Floyd wasn’t a saint.  He was a disease.  He was a career criminal who swam in a sea of dysfunction.  He existed because this society tolerates a subculture that embraces criminality.  When every inhabitant of a city gets to meet George Floyd on any random day; gets robbed by him or assaulted by him, then they will truly understand what BLM and defund the police represents for their lives.  It represents the law of the jungle, kill or be killed.

So, I’m very encouraged every time I read about another atrocity in New York, Chicago or Baltimore.  Whereas I mourn for the senseless destruction of life and the terror and pain inflicted on innocents in these places, I also recognize that evolution is taking place.  Stupidity is being educated the only way it can be.  With pain and even death.  When we have a nation, whose cities are populated by people who would rather have cops in charge than gangbangers and homeless schizophrenics then we will have really evolved.
