Life may as properly be called an art as any other.

“And all this time,
in travail, sobbing, gaining on the current,
we rowed into the strait—Skylla to port
and on our starboard beam Kharybdis, dire
gorge of the salt sea tide. By heaven! when she
vomited, all the sea was like a cauldron
seething over intense fire, when the mixture
suddenly heaves and rises.
The shot spume
soared to the landside heights, and fell like rain.
But when she swallowed the sea water down
we saw the funnel of the maelstrom, heard
the rock bellowing all around, and dark
sand raged on the bottom far below.
My men all blanched against the gloom, our eyes
were fixed upon that yawning mouth in fear
of being devoured.”
(THE ODYSSEY by Homer; Translated by Robert Fitzgerald; Book Twelve, lines 280 – 290)
“In five minutes the whole sea, as far as Vurrgh, was lashed into ungovernable fury; but it was between Moskoe and the coast that the main uproar held its sway. Here the vast bed of the waters, seamed and scarred into a thousand conflicting channels, burst suddenly into phrensied convulsion — heaving, boiling, hissing — gyrating in gigantic and innumerable vortices, and all whirling and plunging on to the eastward with a rapidity which water never elsewhere assumes except in precipitous descents.
In a few minutes more, there came over the scene another radical alteration. The general surface grew somewhat more smooth, and the whirlpools, one by one, disappeared, while prodigious streaks of foam became apparent where none had been seen before. These streaks, at length, spreading out to a great distance, and entering into combination, took unto themselves the gyratory motion of the subsided vortices, and seemed to form the germ of another more vast. Suddenly — very suddenly — this assumed a distinct and definite existence, in a circle of more than a mile in diameter. The edge of the whirl was represented by a broad belt of gleaming spray ; but no particle of this slipped into the mouth of the terrific funnel, whose interior, as far as the eye could fathom it, was a smooth, shining, and jet-black wall of water, inclined to the horizon at an angle of some forty-five degrees, speeding dizzily round and round with a swaying and sweltering motion, and sending forth to the winds an appalling voice, half shriek, half roar, such as not even the mighty cataract of Niagara ever lifts up in its agony to Heaven.
The mountain trembled to its very base, and the rock rocked. I threw myself upon my face, and clung to the scant herbage in an excess of nervous agitation.
“This,” said I at length, to the old man — “this can be nothing else than the great whirlpool of the Maelström.””
(A Descent Into The Maelstrom by Edgar Allan Poe)
The folks in the dissident right and more and more even normies like myself talk about the chaotic world that the Left has generated as Clown World or The Narrative or whatever term of unreality we can summon to describe this never-ending crisis that they’ve created and we live in. And it is this. It is a vertigo inducing environment that just keeps getting weirder and weirder and worse and worse. Logically I know that there will be a bottom but what I haven’t thought too much about is how bad that bottom will be. But I ‘ve been starting to do just that. I look at the players that have been creating these conditions and I think they are willing to go a lot further with this stuff.
Back at the end of Obama’s second term he organized the beginning of BLM by instructing the Justice Department to both intimidate city police forces and empower street thugs by selectively enforcing federal laws. Four years later we had the George Floyd riots as the next larger wave of this kind of federally sponsored street violence. My guess is that the next wave will occur after the mid-term elections. And I don’t think it matters whether the Democrats or the Republicans win. Biden or Harris’s Justice Department will still be calling the shots and they will be looking to beat down the people living within their power. One caveat, it’s possible it won’t wait for the end of 2022. If Biden continues to lose power and fails to move his legislative objectives, I could see the powers that be deciding to flex their muscles sooner.
The question then is how bad could that get? What I’m thinking is that street violence will be used as an excuse to push those stalled objectives. They’ll use it to get slavery reparations, redistribution through confiscation of 401K accounts and other outrages. They also want to pack the Supreme Court to allow some extremely unconstitutional actions. Those probably include gun seizure and curtailment of freedom of speech.
Am I painting an overly grim picture? Maybe. But I no longer think of any of these things as unthinkable. The people in Obama’s circle are as revolutionary as Lenin or Stalin were. And a lot of the Republicans are less than impressive. So far, no heroes have emerged to push back against the coordinated strength of the Left. If our enemies hadn’t become so transparently devoted to destroying our world it would be even harder to rally the Right. Very few useful people can have missed what’s going on. But that being said our backs are pretty tightly up against the wall. There is precious little time to reverse these things. If we don’t change course, we will hit bottom. And after that there won’t be much left.
And that’s the metaphor of the maelström. If you get sucked down into Charybdis and dragged across the rocks on the bottom there won’t be much left. It would be better to steer toward Scylla. She’ll take a few lives but the ship will survive. I’ll leave it to the readers to figure which course of ours is which.
Human thought is like a monstrous pendulum: it keeps swinging from one extreme to the other. Within the compass of five generations we find the Puritan first an uncompromising believer in demonology and magic, and then a scoffer at everything involving the play of fancy.

Sometimes it’s important to stop and smell the roses.
Now that Dementia Joe has found his groove and provides the public with a daily failure or easily recognized lie it’s becoming a very enjoyable daily ritual to go to the top news and see what Joe’s latest coup consists of.
Will it be a new confabulation with himself as hero? Maybe he cured polio back in the day or invented the solar panel. Will it be the announcement of some foreign policy failure? Perhaps Canada will re-align its military with Russia or China. Or maybe some new embarrassment from Biden’s past will surface. Possibly him sniffing the hair of a small child or a coma victim.
But whatever it is, I feel so grateful that Joe is the president. He is uniquely qualified to wake up millions of Americans who until now thought that the Democrat party was a legitimate political organization. Drawing on his super power of ultra-stupid he can delegitimize almost anything.
In fact, at the rate he’s going, he’s bound to bring the whole concept of representative government into disrepute and bring on a new age of monarchy. King Donald the First? I guess it’s possible.
And all this is very surprising. The last time we saw this kind of public humiliation of a president was when George W Bush was hung out to dry during Hurricane Katrina. And building on that the press kept the drum beat of failure going right up to the end of his term in office. Is it intentional on their part? Or is Joe just so incompetent that there’s no way even a compliant media establishment can paper over his failures? It’s still sort of an open question. I think the answer should become clear within the next couple of weeks. Monday is Labor Day and the end of the summer doldrums. From thereon in, every news story will be reaching the full audience of readers. If fresh atrocities from Afghanistan continue to make it to the top of the news page, then Joe will be a spectacular failure in his first year as president. If somehow the drip of bad news suddenly dries up and instead the heroic Biden meme reappears then we know that his people have made peace with the Deep State and all is forgiven.
Now, that’s not to say that outside events won’t have a lot to do with the narrative. There are still hundreds of Americans trapped in Afghanistan. We’ve yet to see any of them declared hostages. Every day that ISIS-K does not send out a video of an American captive gets Joe Biden one day closer to putting Afghanistan behind him. After all the public is pretty simple-minded. Whatever the story of the day is quickly drives out of their minds yesterday’s big news. Do that enough times and even something as momentous as 9-11-2001 fades into ancient history. So. unless the media has turned permanently against Dementia Joe good luck can save him.
But good luck isn’t a Joe Biden thing. Lying, yes. Corruption, absolutely. But now that Joey has the highest visibility job on Earth his lies and machinations are becoming harder and harder to hide. So, I foresee more gaffs, more failures and more disgust on the part of Americans who discover that their president is a transparently corrupt and senile weasel.
Well done, Dementia Joe, well done.
Well, you have to admire a guy that never quits. If lies A through F don’t work there’s always G, H and I. Coming up to the Jewish Holidays Joe spins another lie about going to the site of a tragedy that he can use for his narrative. Problem is even his guys are tired of the out and out fabrications. Joe claimed he visited the site of an anti-semitic mass murder in Pennsylvania. But the people there told the truth and said he never showed up there at all.
We all need to stop worrying about truth. Joe’s fake stories are much more entertaining. In fact I want more fake. How about the Adventures of Corn Pop and GI Joe Biden in Fallujah. All it needs is the right comic book illustrator and it will sell millions.
Biden is the perfect representative for the Democrat party and in fact all of the Left. He combines in equal measures self-delusion and intentional deception. One slides seamlessly into the other. And lately it’s on open display. The Rout from Kabul is a brilliant military victory. Sluggish economic growth is a dynamic recovery. Broken promises on the end of the COVID lockdown is glossed over as “following the science.”
The only thing that’s new is that the media seems to be getting new marching orders. Maybe they’re getting ready to move Joe out and move Lady Macbeth in.
Hanging and marriage, you know, go by destiny.

I just read today that the House and Senate have bills to mandate women register for the military draft. Ah, perfect. Now we’re a hundred percent clear that this is a suicide pact we live under. But what it got me thinking is who will be volunteering for the next war.
Let’s say that the Taliban hands over some of the military aircraft we gave them, to ISIS-K and they manage to fly it in over the southern border and just for the sake of argument, they fly it into the Freedom Tower in Manhattan. Now granted, it may take a few weeks before anyone in New York gets around to responding to the huge pile of smoldering rubble. After all the cops really aren’t welcome in the City anymore. Back in 2001 New York’s iron workers were the ones who showed up on their own to start cutting up the steel to get at the remains of the victims. Eventually the government starting paying them for their work but they showed up to try and save lives. I wonder if there’s anyone who would show up this time. I doubt it. But eventually even dysfunctional New York will acknowledge that they’ve been attacked. Then what?
If the Taliban give a big old belly laugh and say, “What goes around comes around.” What exactly will Washington do? If Dementia Joe goes on tv and mumbles about honor and duty and rallying around the flag who is going to sign up to invade Afghanistan?
I’m guessing there will be a big LGBTQ contingent, maybe fifteen or twenty lesbians and a few eunuch-transgendered guys signing up. But that’s probably it. That means if they really want to fight a big war they’ll need to institute the draft. Now even if they haven’t added women to the draft, I’m guessing that the Democrat voters aren’t going to be thrilled about going to war. I can’t see Brooklyn hipsters taking up the sword. Nor do I think that the managerial state is willing to let their kids go toe to toe with Ivan (or even Muhammad). I don’t think Congress is going to authorize the draft. Is that the end of the forever wars? I think so.
We no longer live in a country where patriotism has the same meaning. Nobody is going to sign up to make Dementia Joe look good. No one. Not their side and definitely not our side. Flyover country has no interest in avenging Bill de Blasio and BLM. In fact, Joe should ask Antifa and BLM for volunteers. Something tells me no hands will go up.
So, that puts a whole new spin on NATO and the other treaties we have in place. If I were the Japanese or the South Koreans or especially the Taiwanese, I’d be putting together a nuke or two right about now. And I’m guessing Ukraine, Belarus and even Poland and Germany are re-evaluating their relationships with Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
So, in this brave new world even individual US states will need to evaluate what they think the feds can provide for military assistance. For instance, Texas is becoming aware of just how powerful the Mexican cartels are becoming inside their borders. Since Biden seems more interested in helping illegals than protecting American citizens from criminal aliens, at some point, I think Texas will need to formalize policies that under normal circumstances would be the responsibility of the federal agencies like ICE and the FBI. Arresting illegals that are part of the drug trafficking industry will become a very large part of law enforcement in Texas. Possibly some of the Texans who formerly might have enlisted in the US Army and Marine Corps might end up working for a Texas law enforcement agency that needs tactical skills.
But I think the big takeaway is that Joe Biden and his woke military are on their own. The real Americans are done. Joe can send his girls and trannies to keep the peace in Baghdad and Kabul. The rest of us will stay at home and protect our own right here. That’s going to make it a very different world.
So, the good news is that this second episode of Season 3 is a thousand times better than its predecessor, Spock’s Brain. The bad news is that’s still pretty close to nothing.
The show opens up with Kirk walking around the bridge petulantly berating Chekov and Spock for being Chekov and Spock. He seems irritated, as if his underwear had been sprinkled with crushed fiberglass or something. Suddenly he orders Sulu to change course and enter the Romulan neutral zone. Soon they pass through the neutral zone and enter Romulan space where they are quickly surrounded by three Romulan war ships that apparently were cloaked and monitoring the Enterprise before it entered Romulan space. For some reason we are told that the ships are of Klingon design. We are left to assume that Desilu didn’t have any Romulan plastic models laying around for Season 3. Personally, I think they should have used potatoes. I think potatoes would make great alien spaceships. But I digress.
Soon the Romulan commander demands that Kirk and Spock beam aboard her ship and answer for their illegal incursion. We find out the Romulan commander is a woman and she has the hots for Spock. It seems that Vulcans and Romulans are related and Spock’s pointy ears do it for her. During interrogation Spock volunteers that Kirk entered Romulan space without Federation permission and has been acting erratically. Kirk reacts to this betrayal by foaming at the mouth and shrieking at Spock that he will kill him.
During a later encounter Kirk attempts to assault Spock but is killed when Spock uses the Vulcan “death grip.” When Kirk’s body is returned to the Enterprise for composting, we discover that Spock only temporarily deactivated Kirk to make him appear dead. McCoy operates on Kirk’s ears to make him look like a Romulan and then Kirk is transported back to the Romulan ship to assist Spock in stealing the cloaking device.
Meanwhile Spock and the Romulan commander are engaging in some kind of erotic hand touching. Spock is holding his hand in the Vulcan salute configuration and I think she was too. And they kind of move their hands together like it’s sex or something. It’s really difficult to say if this is more ridiculous or annoying to watch. Maybe embarrassing is the right description. Anyway, the whole thing gets interrupted when word of Kirk’s theft of the cloaking device reaches the commander.
Spock is sentenced to death by a slow painful method which is not described but probably resembled the thing with the finger touching that we had to watch. While Scotty displays his usual lack of engineering ability in taking way too long to hook up the cloaking device to the Enterprise’s deflector shield, Kirk attempts to provide him with enough time by running away at Warp 9. You know I always thought they couldn’t go faster than Warp 8. Maybe they got a new fuel injector. Anyway, Spock is stalling his execution by providing a statement about his guilt. He recites the Declaration of Independence and was just starting on the “Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner” when Scotty got the cloaking device hooked up and Kirk then lets the transporter crew beam Spock aboard. The lady commander sees Spock starting to sparkle so she grabs hold of him and gets dragged onto the Enterprise with him. Spock apologizes to her for playing with her fingers under false pretenses. There is some joking about Kirk’s ear surgery. Then it mercifully ends.
With respect to my rating, I give very high marks on the Shatner mockery scale. When Kirk was flipping out about Spock’s treachery Shatner gave of his best. His eyes were bulging out of his head and his mouth was twisted into a grimace of agony. I think he was channeling his feelings about the show’s imminent cancellation. As for the show as legitimate entertainment, it wasn’t that bad. It was somewhere in the five or six range.
Let’s call it a 5 // 9.
