King of the Castle

“The house of every one is to him as his castle and fortress, as well for his defence against injury and violence as for his repose.”

Edward Coke

Well the Memorial Day Family Barbecue Day dawns wet, freezing cold and gray.

Perfect for New England!  The land of cold and mildew.

But all is well.  I got up and cleaned the grill on the lowest deck and moved it so that the smoke will get blown out to the sky but will leave me under the overhang, snug and dry.  I walked the property in the rain and saw all the flowers and weeds swelling in the rain.  One of the ponds had cold bull frogs and leopard frogs that were too chilled to care that I was walking by.  I dropped the level on the swimming pool and backwashed it to get rid of all the pollen and tree debris that the wind and rain brought down.  We won’t be using it today.  That’s for sure.

23JUN2018 Photo of the Day, Sony A7 III, Sony 90mm f\2.8 macro lens, flower

The hellebore flowers are fading out now and the rhododendrons are at peak bloom and one of the earlier blooming bushes is already shedding its flowers.  Have to get a few photos soon.  The cone flowers and the roses are starting to bud and the irises are just about done.  Boy they don’t last long.  And miracle of miracles the deer haven’t eaten the daylilies or the hostas like they usually do.  They did pick off one bunch of Solomon’s Seal bunches but I’ve got plenty to spare.  As Camera Girl says everybody’s got to eat.  Well, I wish someone would eat the deer but that another story.

It’s too cold for us to eat outside so I’ve made a big table in the dining room from four folding tables and we’ll all sit together and feast on Camera Girl’s fixings and my barbecue skills.  Today is restricted to burgers, dogs, and sausage on the meat side.  We’ll complement that with homemade potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, washed down with lemonade and followed up with watermelon, Italian cheese cake, apple pie, strawberry shortcake, vanilla ice cream and by popular demand Klondike Bars.  All of that dessert will be washed down with good coffee and lots of good talk and laughter as the grandchildren get spoiled their grandmother and I tell lies about the good old days.

Afterwards we’ll talk about school and what they want to do this summer and their vacation plans.  I’ll make a point of leaving out politics and COVID since that will just upset everyone on a happy day.  We’ll talk about inflation and education costs and whatever else is on their minds.  Maybe we’ll watch some old kids’ movies.  Maybe not.  Maybe I’ll just put on some music.  Should be a lot of fun.

What else can I ask for.  Healthy kids, productive adults and functional families.  That’s as good as it gets.  So at least for this year I’m still king of my castle and the secret police aren’t supposed to make an appearance at the castle gate.  I can make believe that Memorial Day still means we live in the United States of America.  Enjoy your holiday.

The Practical Problem with Alienating the Normal Half of Your Country

In September of 2001 New York City and Washington D.C. were attacked by Arab fanatics who flew jumbo jets into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and almost got the US Capitol Building too.  Hundreds of New York firemen and dozens of police died attempting to rescue civilians in the chaos of the destruction of the twin towers.  Afterwards the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were fought, as usual by young men from Middle America.  A few came from New York City.  I know of some.  But most kids from New York City didn’t want to go off to war.  I remember an interview right after the attack when a reporter asked a student at New York University whether he thought he should defend his country after his city had been attacked.  The smart kid said, “Sure somebody should go fight.  But not me, I don’t believe in war.”  And that is the majority opinion in a place like New York City.

So those other somebodies did fight and die in those wars.  And they went on fighting and dying for two decades.  But now the Defense Department is combing through the ranks looking for white supremacists and other deplorables to be kicked out of the military.  And I’m sure eventually they’ll get a different military.  LGBTQ soldiers and especially transgender soldiers are very popular right now not to mention pregnant air force fighter pilots.  It sounds very exciting and vibrant.

But what happens after the next 9-11 type attack?  Let’s say Iran sneaks in a dirty bomb over the Mexican border and sets it off in New York City.  Not a real nuke just a big conventional weapon that’s been peppered with enriched uranium.  Now after the George Floyd riots and the calls to prosecute police for upholding the laws how many cops are going to run into that hell to restore order?  And without the police how many firemen are going to put out those fires?  And how many ambulances will go in to rescue the wounded?

And who is going to volunteer to go to Iran to fight the mullahs on the ground?  I’ll be curious to see just how the LGBTQ brigade will do fighting in the 115 °F middle east heat.  Hot flashes from the hormone therapy must be such a bother at those temperatures.  And I wonder just how sharp those pregnant fighter pilots are going to be battling in the air space with surface to air missiles lighting up their instrument board.  Sounds daunting.

My point is I have a feeling the US military is going to be a lot less impressive pretty soon.  If countries like Iran and China start thinking that we aren’t the military superpower that we used to be then they will start to look for ways to apply pressure on us to get what they want.  China is already doing it.  They are throwing their weight around in their own back yard and scaring their neighbors, Japan and South Korea and Taiwan, with a narrative that says the US is a spent force and that China is the new hegemon.

What happens when China decides that we really are impotent?  Let’s say they sink an aircraft carrier.  And let’s say that Commander in Chief Hair Sniffer puts out the call for volunteers to sign up and defend their country.  Who’s going to show up?  No one.

And after he walks back his banter and kowtows to China and our allies in Asia switch allegiance to the strong horse what kind of foreign policy problems will we be looking at then?  Well, actually things will simplify.  We will resemble Britain as their empire evaporated in the post WW II period.  The Russians and the Chinese and the Iranians and the Turks will carve out spheres of influence in the power vacuum we create and we will recede more and more from the dominant role we had.  Even the position of the US dollar may change radically.  And that will have a devastating effect on the US economy and the federal government.

Of course, some good will come of a scenario like this one.  If America’s status as a military superpower is degraded by a Democrat administration there is a very good chance that a massive shift in political support will occur.  Think back to what happened when Jimmy Carter let the Iranians hold our embassy personnel hostage for over a year and then bungled the military operation to rescue the hostages.  Ronald Reagan beat him in a landslide in the 1980 presidential election.  If it is perceived that the Democrats have endangered the country militarily, they will be removed.  What the Republicans do with such an opportunity is hard to say.  Hopefully they will be less stupid than they have been up until this point.  Hopefully they restore the armed forces to a condition where it consists of normal men led by the best men we’ve got.  If not then I won’t be surprised if this country really does crack up.  If our military is exposed as a spent force then regional groups will become emboldened to defy the federal government even more easily and openly.

Either way things will be getting interesting in the new world we live in.  The woke are going to find out that their new world order requires a little more force than the LGBTQ brigade can muster with or without the pregnant fighter pilots.

29MAY2021 – Good Morning Gulag Archipelago!

Our fake President is a leering, gibbering, creepy mental patient and the “intelligence” agencies have perfected their imitation of the KGB and the leaders of all the richest companies have decided to replace us with illiterate third world peons and our children believe that men in sundresses are women.

Well, dammit, it sounds like it’s time for Memorial Day Weekend Barbecue.

Good morning folks.  It’s forty degrees and raining and windy but for whatever reason I’m in a great mood.  Tomorrow’s the family barbecue and granted we’ll be moving the meal inside and the pool won’t be needed, but we’ll have a great time.

So, we’re in a bad place and it may get a lot worse but you know what?  It’s still pretty great to be alive.  Your lungs are giving you air and your blood is racing through your body and the dimwits around here have even admitted that the cops can’t beat me into submission for walking into a grocery store without a towel wrapped around my face.  Despite the cold snap the grass is growing and the birds are singing and other than cleaning the grill and buying some propane I don’t have to do anything but enjoy the day.  I put my country music thumb drive in the music system and let it play and I’ll write some more of my new story and I’ll look around at what’s going on in this sad world and maybe I’ll figure out why the Briggs and Stratton engine on my push mower died last week.  I took apart the carburetor and it looked clean as a whistle.  I’ll get a spark plug wrench today and take a look at that.  If that doesn’t work, I’ll probably buy a manual mower and start getting exercise that way.  Cutting the grass is an amazing ritual.  Sure, if you’re too busy it’s an impossible time sink to cut your lawn without an engine but it’s a pretty zen way of communing with the summer world.  Ray Bradbury has a chapter in his book “Dandelion Wine” that extols the virtues of a weekly jaunt around the yard behind a reel mower.  Of course he was living in LA at the time and there probably wasn’t any grass in his life at that point but he was hearkening back to his life as a kid in Waukegan, Illinois.  Anyway I’ve spent the last week cutting down thorn shrubs and weed trees like Russian Olive and Ailanthus and digging up their roots.  I finish up drenched in sweat and weary with aching muscles and covered in cuts and scrapes and I’ve been sleeping like a log and wake up hungry and with a clear head.

Sure it’s still a cesspool out in our culture and we are being led down the path to serfdom by evil men and our women and children are deluded but it’s not over yet.  Sanity has a way of breaking through once insanity is allowed to run amok for too long.  And when it does we need to seize our chance and look out for ourselves.  No more alliances with the middle, no more seeing their side of the argument.  Look for good people and form your own community and support each other.  The rest can and will go to hell.  That’s just the way it is.

But have a good holiday and enjoy your own damn life.  That’s what it’s about.

28MAY2021 – OCF Update

The weather turned cold and wet just in time to make my Sunday barbecue into an indoor event.  I’m guessing the swimming pool will be empty but we’ll have fun anyway.  All the grandkids will be there and I’ll regale them with stories from my days as a doughboy in WW I.  Wait, that can’t be right.  Well, they’re kids they may believe it.

I’ve started a new story.  I’m writing an alternative present/future with a revolt against the Left.  It will have some touches of techno-thriller and some sci-fi and I’ll be in it too.  So that’s scary.

It’s got my interest.  We’ll see how this goes.  I may throw some scraps of it up on the site and ask for feedback.

Stay tuned.

Television as a Metaphor

Camera Girl likes police procedurals.  She watches Blue Bloods, NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles.  I used to watch Blue Bloods too, until the progressive propaganda became too annoying.  But recently she was watching an episode of NCIS and I was trapped on a computer in the same room.  And because of what I saw and heard I have determined that these shows are now written for an audience of fourteen-year-old girls.

It was so pathetic it was embarrassing to watch.  The men and women were like a table of freshmen high school girls.  “If you like me then I’ll like you.”  The whole show was just the allegedly highly professional and deadly agents of NCIS snickering and gossiping about whether the pretty girl and the cool guy are dating or not.

So, I confronted Camera Girl.  I said, “What the hell is this?  Is this what this show is all about, a Dating Game with handcuffs?”  Well maybe I didn’t say exactly that.  But it was very sarcastic and very clever, whatever it was.  And she was very defensive and swore that it was usually all murders and forensics and gunplay.  And I gave her a cold and very knowing “hah!”

Now maybe I did accidentally see the one silly episode of the season.  But the odds say that isn’t the case.  What’s clearly the case is that the people writing these shows are millennials and they’re writing them for millennials.  And I guess that makes sense from a demographic and commercial perspective.  But at the same time, it is an indictment of a whole generation.  This means that the women and the men of Gen Y are infantilized idiots.  Even a show that’s whole reason for existing is to provide an action-adventure story has been turned into Archie Comics.  Jughead, Archie, Veronica and all the gang are hanging out at the malt shoppe talking about whose going with whom to the high school prom and trying to stop Al Qaeda from blowing up Joe Biden.

It’s a minor point and you might say, “Who cares?”  Fair enough, tv always sucked anyway.  But it’s just another marker to show that the people who are now the grown-ups aren’t.  They aren’t grown-ups.  They aren’t ready to take over the world.  And they aren’t going to make it.

Our society is infantile and it’s not a world that can be handled by infants.  Watching the millennials in Antifa play acting a riot and the authorities letting them do it tells me that we have ceased to transact our business in a business-like manner.  What is currently happening is a choreographed piece of theater that the millennials can point to as the reason for why things will have to change.  This is the fig leaf that they will point to as the reason why a corporate/bureaucratic managerial state will take over everything and they’ll just do as they’re told.  A whole generation feels unqualified to do anything and that’s that.

I’m not sure there is anything that can be done about these people.  I think they’re hopeless in every sense of that word.  They’re probably relieved that they can just declare themselves the losers and go home to their tiny shared apartments and spend their unemployment check to buy their meager meals and wait to shrivel up and quietly die, thereby saving resources for Gaia.

Well, despite what the Gospel says the meek will not inherit the earth.  The strong will.  The Chinese are not impressed by Gaia or Antifa or Twitter.  They are looking to expand and they are not worried about anybody’s feelings.  They will push aside these weak fools very quickly and the fools will get their wish, poverty and oblivion.

Now how do we get out from under this?  Damned if I know.  Maybe we really can separate ourselves from them.  In fact, we have to.  If we don’t, we will be swallowed up in the ruin that they are making of our world.  They are willing to hand things over to the machines and those machines will grind them up and use them for a lubricant.

Well, I’ve complained enough.  It’s not as if tv was ever much good anyway.   But it is good for one thing.

Separation is Now Complete

Even a year ago there were plenty of people who honestly hoped that the Left and Right could paper over their differences and find a path forward that both sides could live with.  Sort of a Missouri Compromise for the 21st century.

I don’t believe that is any longer the case.  Sure, there are some people who make believe that everything will work out in the end and really this is all for the best.  But all of those people are on the Left.  Although some of them think of themselves as being in the middle.  But if you see what they are willing to tolerate then not calling them the Left is inaccurate.  Anyway, the Left figures that if they just keep doing what they’re doing now, we’ll either see the light of their day or just give up and go along with the inevitability of the right side of history.

But other than people who are completely unaware of what is happening on the ground everyone on the Right knows that we cannot live with the Left any longer.  The hatred they have for us is visceral and the tactics they are willing to use to get their way are not tolerable.

So, here we are.  We know what we need, separation.  What we don’t know is how or when.  It seems fairly apparent that it won’t be an easy process.  I’ll even say it won’t be bloodless, although, I don’t think we’re talking about a shooting war with tanks and drones and ground divisions.  I think it will be something like the Fall of the Soviet Union.  Things at the edges will start to unravel and the powers that be will lose control of the narrative and then start to lose control of events.  To a small extent it’s already happening.  The Red State governors stopped even paying lip service to President “Mask Up!” and just declared the COVID fiasco over.  And they made it stick.  And even the Blue State governors understood that they couldn’t keep the charade going any longer.  What will be the next domino to fall?  Will it be illegal aliens?  Will Texas start rounding them up on its own or denying them work and forcing them to leave?  Maybe.  Will the Supreme Court tell Alabama they can’t stop abortions after the heartbeat of the baby and will Alabama ignore them?  Maybe.

So, nobody knows how all this will go but we do know what we don’t want.  We don’t want BLM destroying our lives.  In fact, we don’t want affirmative action anymore.  If the Supreme Court thinks affirmative action is constitutional then the Supreme Court has to go.  We don’t want to defund the police.  Say what you will about the police.  Some of them are thugs too.  But my odds of avoiding crime are a hell of a lot better if the boys in blue are keeping the Bloods and the Crips on a very short leash.  We want color blind justice so that a melting pot like the United States was can come close to treating everyone sort of fairly.  We don’t want to be told what we can and cannot say or believe and we don’t want anyone telling us who we have to like or dislike.  And we damn sure know we need to be able to protect ourselves with our own weapons.  We may even need to protect ourselves from the Federal government.  The FBI has become the KGB, an enemy of the free people and we have more to fear from them than from any Russian threat.

We know we’re two different nations.  All we need now is a way to make it official.

So that’s what I think.  Does anyone disagree and think we’ll be able to meet the Left in the middle?  Let me know.  I’m always interested in other opinions.

Paul Gosar (Republican, AZ) Drafts Legislature to Ban Affirmative Action

Sure it’s not even a possibility but it’s exactly what I’ve been saying for years.  If the Supreme Court had any guts they would have declared Affirmative Action unconstitutional decades ago and ended it.  Kudos to the congressman for at least showing his convictions.  Others hould follow him.

Michael Anton Has a Post on Re-Drawing Some of the States

Over at the American Mind, Michael Anton has a long essay about the desirability of re-drawing the borders between some of the states and also allowing the states more independence to live their own way.  On paper it sounds great.  But how does it happen with the Left in charge of the federal government?

The only way I see this happening in reality is for one or more of the strong Red States to nullify the most unconstitutional federal laws and then make it stick.  I’m looking at you Ron DeSantis.

The Passion of the Floyd

Today we celebrate the martyrdom of St. George of Floyd, America’s favorite black, home invading, fake money passing, fentanyl swallowing, crybaby, saint.  It’s exactly a year since we first heard of this loser.  After a life of felonious degeneracy, he capped it off by trying to escape arrest by swallowing some ridiculous amount of fentanyl, resisting arrest and crying about it as the police waited for an ambulance to try and save his life.

And because some BLM/Antifa scumbags captured his whining on video and pretended he was choked to death the Democrats allowed their cities and the surrounding countryside to be subjected to riot, rapine and arson.  And it’s only been a year.  It seems like ten since normalcy existed in post-America.  I can open the internet any day and find any number of inhuman assaults on old women and children by the black underclass, now completely immune from police intervention or arrest.  Lunatics running these cities look for stupider and stupider excuses for why inequality, or rather “inequity,” in schooling or employment is the reason that assault and theft are understandable by the urban thugs who commit these ubiquitous crimes.  Violent crime is soaring in these places but the handcuffing of the police force is denied to be the cause.

CNN had some dimwit yammering about how not enough has been done to capitalize on the spinelessness of the Democrat officials.  He thinks we should completely eliminate the police and allow the massacre of non-blacks to proceed full speed.  Brilliant.

Well, with respect to places like Minneapolis, Portland and Seattle I’m completely on the side of the accelerationists.  I think the idiots in charge and the BLM/Antifa thugs should be encouraged to burn those cities right down to the ground.  The object lesson that would provide to the rest of the world would be highly educational.  I think seeing what happens when you put the lunatics in charge of the asylum is a very valuable experience.  And it is a good test of whether the Democrats in these jurisdictions are true believers or not.  A mayor who allows the city he represents to be destroyed the way the Romans did Carthage is hard core and should be commended for his consistency.  For after all, if critical race theory is to be more than just a grift you have to take it to its logical conclusion.  And that is that people are only completely equal when they’re all dead.

So go out and celebrate St. George of Floyd Day.  Snort some fentanyl, break in the door to some woman’s house, pistol whip and rob her then go pass some bogus money at the local bodega.  And do it knowing that if you’re black that no cop in his right mind would arrest you today.  After all, he has a family and life of his own.  He knows what the cowardly jurors did to Chauvin.  He’ll just stand and watch as you go on your crime spree.  He’ll probably start counting down the days to when he can get his pension or if that’s too far off, move to a red state where the rule of law still mostly exists.

In years to come when St George is canonized and various miracles will have been wrought in his name, I expect to see a thousand foot tall, rotating, statue of his head unveiled on the site of his martyrdom.  A blinking light will be put at the top to protect aircraft at night.  Pilgrims will travel from the four corners of the earth to see his strange ugly visage.  A miraculous medal will be sold to these pilgrims with the motto, “I can’t breathe.”  And religious people will ingest fentanyl and have men dressed as policemen stand on their necks to simulate the passion of the Floyd.  This truly is the Age of Miracles and Wonder.

The Disturbed Deputy Has a Post on Performing the Double Tap

In these troubled times it’s probably not a bad idea to understand the basics of self defense with a hand gun.  And being a law enforcement officer I guess the Deputy is performing a public service for his readers.

I’m always interested in practical information and I guess there’s nothing more practical than knowing how to survive actual problems.  And after what’s been going on across the country during the BLM/Antifa riots I would say knowing how to use a gun to save your own life sounds practical.
